Colosseum Combat XIX | Things are Heating Up
It appears that Saturday night’s (January 7, 2011) Colosseum Combat XIX event is gaining some steam. ESPN.com’s MMA section listed it officially in their exclusive “upcoming events,” taking note of the headlining match-up, a bout between UFC veteran Shamar Bailey and Darrell Smith which features some bad blood.
“They got a little heated,” says Colosseum Combat promoter Mark Slater. “They fought three years ago and Darrell Smith was confident he won the first fight and he got shorthanded in the decision. It’ll be a good night of fights for sure.”
The show, which will be held at The Kokomo Events Center in Kokomo, Indiana, is expected to be the biggest show in Colosseum Combat history.
Slater holds firm in his policy of not babying the local talent and he’s true to his word as two of Indiana’s top prospects will be strongly tested on Saturday night as well.
19 year old flyweight James Porter, at 3-0, is coming off the toughest fight of his young career and he’ll be stepping into the cage with a man 20 years his elder in Carson Gainey, who is unbeaten in his last six fights and is riding a big wave of momentum.
Also featured on the card is 20 year old lightweight Brady Hovermale, who expects to be heavily tested by Cory “The Irish Car Bomb” Mahon, who holds a 9-4 overall record and has been hardened by both UFC and WEC veterans in his young career.
The doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the first fight of the night begins at 8:00 p.m. eastern time. General admission is $20 with VIP seating upwards of $50 so head on down to 1500 N Reed Road (US 31) Kokomo, Indiana because you won’t want to miss it!
