Hoosier Fight Club | HFC always promises a great card and a great atmosphere and Saturday night was no different as they did just that. HFC 8 brought us every scenario possible in MMA. There was KO’s, submissions, stoppages and controversy. Let’s get to the coverage.
Amateur Bouts:
Jonathon Bandy vs Brandon Thomerson
Brady quickly gets Thomerson against the cage. With Tomerson in his clinch Brady lands a few solid knees. With the fight still against the cage, Brady continues to punish Thomerson. Brady turns the heat up and lands some devastating knees that has Thomerson buckling. Thomerson eventually reverses the position, but Brady quickly gets it back. In a flurry of exchanged punches, Brady drops Thomerson with a right just as the bell rings, saving Thomerson. Round 2 starts the same as the first with Brady forcing Thomerson to the cage, but this time he goes to work with his hands. Brady lands a couple close hooks followed up by an uppercut that drops Thomerson. Brady quickly pounces and is thrown off Thomerson by the referee coming in to save Thomerson at :43 of the 2nd Round. Jonathon Bandy defeated Brandon Thomerson via TKO in :43 of the 2nd Round
Shaun Sanchez vs Chris Jennings
Sanchez lands a solid left hook early on and drives Jennings to the cage. Jennings looks to sink in a Guillotine but realizing he isn’t going to finish it he loosens it up and pushes off. Meeting in the center of the cage, Sanchez lands another left that backs Jennings up to the cage. In a brief exchange, Sanchez lands a right that drops Jennings so fast that Sanchez continues to swing with nothing to hit. Realizing he dropped Jennings, he pounces. The referee immediately rushes in and stops the fight at :51 of the 1st Round. Shaun Sanchez defeated Chris Jennings via KO in :51 of the 1st Round
Chris Malamatos vs Jonathon Ciavirelli
Malamatos controls the center of the cage as Ciavirelli moves around it. Ciavirelli steps in and out of the pocket for a few brief exchanges. Malamatos ties up Ciavirelli had gets his back, where he tries to lock in a standing rear naked choke. He drags Ciavirelli to the canvas to try to finish with the rear naked choke. Ciavirelli escapes the choke only to find himself mounted by Malamatos. After a couple of hard shots from Malamatos, Ciavirelli rolls and gives up his back once again. From the back of Ciavirelli Malamatos attempts a few rear naked chokes, but was unsuccessful. He begins to attack with strikes while Ciavirelli turtles, causing the referee to stop the fight at 2:06 of the 1st Round and leaving the crowd upset and expressing their thoughts that it was an early stoppage. Chris Malamatos defeated Jonathon Ciavirellivia TKO in 2:06 of the 1st Round
Drew Walters vs Bryant Whitaker
For minute of the 1st Round, both fighters take turns stepping in and out of the pocket to initiate an exchange of strikes. Walters steps in the business end of Whitakers superman punch but didn’t seem to be effected as he initiated the next barrage of punches that has Whitaker covering up with his back to the cage. Whitaker shoots in and eventually takes the fight to the ground. From butterfly guard Walters sees room to get up and works his way to his knees as Whitaker looks to secure an anaconda choke that transitions to a d’arce choke. The d’arce attempt was short lived as Walters escapes and gains side control of Whitaker. Whitaker bridges and rolls Walters over, landing in half guard as the bell rings to end the 1st Round. Round 2 begins with both fighters a little more timid than the previous one. Walters eventually pulls the trigger and lands a solid lick to the side of Whitaker. Whitaker charges only to me met with a right by Walters. Both fighters step in and out of the pocket for brief exchanges. Whitaker gets Walters back to the cage and struggles to get the fight to the ground and go for another anaconda choke but eventually lets go. The round comes to an end with Whitaker in side control of Walters. Round 3 begins with both fighters hungry to finish the fight. Trading turns being the aggressor, Walters lands a right hook that gets a low roar from the crowd. Whitaker throws (and misses) a spinning kick that allows Walters to take his back. Whitaker pulls Walters to the ground attempting a kimora, but is unsuccessful and turns to his back with Walters in his guard. After passing the guard of Whitaker, a short display of ground and pound and Whitaker getting back to guard, Walters gets to his feet and attacks with a missing ax kick. With Walters leaving too much room, Whitaker gets to his feet and shoots in. Walters attempts to throw Whitaker but lands on bottom with Whitaker in side control. Whitaker quickly transitions to full mount where he lands some short shots as well as receiving a few from Walters. Walters works his way back to guard and eventually makes his way back to his feet as Whitaker steps back. The fight goes back to the ground when Whitaker shoots in and over powers the sprawl of Walters just before the bell rings to end the round and leaving this fight up to the judges to determine it’s fate. Bryant Whitaker defeated Drew Walters via Split Decision (30-27-Whitaker) (29-28-Walters) (30-27 – Whitaker)
Prodessional Bouts:
Terry House vs Bobby Emmons
Both fighters land some great shots before tying up. House clinches the midsection of Emmons and takes him down against his (House) corner. House lands multiple short shots to the body of Emmons begins to work from the bottom and looks for an armbar. House stands and drags Emmons before eventually escaping the armbar. With the fight back to its feet, the fighters tie up against the cage. House pushes off and begins a barrage of punches before being pulled to the canvas by Emmons. Both Fighters quickly make it back to their feet and trade jabs in the center of the cage. House steps in and delivers a solid left hook that sends Emmons to the canvas where House follows him to finish what he started. House delivers some more damage, but then allows Emmons to lock up a triangle choke forcing House to tap at 4:01 of the 1st Round. Bobby Emmons defeated Terry House via Tapout due to Triangle Choke in 4:01 of the 1st Round
Kevin Nowaczyk vs Daniel Head
The fighters tie up quickly and trade a few knees and punches. Nowaczyk lands straight right that the crowd responded to with a small roar. After a while of both fighters stepping in and out of the pocked and trading shots, Head lands a crowd pleasing head kick and they go right back to trading great shots. Head goes in for a double, but is stuck with driving Nowaczyk to the cage. After pummeling for position, head gets the trip and the takedown, but Nowaczyk quickly gets back to his feet. The fighters meet once again in the center of the cage where Nowaczyk lands a combo that sends Heads mouthpiece flying. The round comes to an end after a few more punches are traded. Round 2 Head comes out aggressive, but is out struck by Nowaczyk. Head shoots in for a takedown but Nowaczyk is able to escape only to be the recipient of a kick to the face. Nowaczyk turns the heat up a bit and throws a combination of punches followed by a leg kick. Head controls the center of the cage while Nowaczyk steps in to trade punches. Head shoots in as Nowaczyk sprawls causing Head to pull guard. Nowaczyk quickly returns to his feet followed by Head. Head backs up Nowaczyk to the cage whre they trade some solid shots before Nowaczyk pushes off and returns to the center of the cage. Head shoots in for a single and gets the takedown, but Nowaczyk makes his way back to his feet immediately with Head in a guillotine. The round comes to an end with both fighters landing short shots against the cage. Round 3 begins with more of the same. Head controls the center of the cage as Nowaczyk moves about, stepping in and out of the pocket to tade punches. After another failed takedown attempt, Head goes for a throw but ends up with Nowaczyk on top of him in full mount. Head rolls giving Nowaczyk his back and Nowaczyk lands a few shots before sinking in the winning rear naked choke. Kevin Nowaczyk defeated Daniel Head via Tapout due to Rear Naked Choke in 3:43 of the 3rd Round
Jake Rosenbaum vs Zach Harvey
Harvey comes out and seems to want to immediately go toe to toe with Rosenbaum. After a few trades, and Rosenbaum getting the better of them, Rosenbaum gets a takedown. After a few short shots Rosenbaum takes the fight back to its feet. Rosenbaum lands a solid uppercut followed by a straight right and a takedown. Harvey attempts a rubber guard, but in a scrable allows Rosenbaum to get the full mount. Under punishment from Rosenbaum, Harvey rolls to his belly where he is stretched out and suffers more damage before the referee steps in to stop the fight at 4:02 of the 1st Round. Jake Rosenbaum defeated Zach Harvey via TKO in 4:02 of the 1st Round
Aaron Noel vs Tim Duncan
Duncan moves about the cage, and as he steps in and out of the pocket he is caught with right hook that dives him backwards against the cage. Noel smells blood and continues with a barrage of punches and a knee that drops Duncan to the canvas. Continuing the punishment Noel pounces and delivers the final strike as the referee steps in at :39 of the 1st Round. Aaron Noel defeated Tim Duncan via TKO in :39 of the 1st Round
Adam Ward vs David Love
Ward takes full advantage of his reach and lands a kick to the mid-section of Love. Love returns the favor with a head kick. Love shows his speed as he avoids multiple strikes from Ward including a superman punch. Ward takes a step back, resets and comes back in with a right than drops Love. Ward jumps into the guard of Love. After a few punches Ward gets back to his feet and throws a few kicks to the legs of Love. Love scooting toward Ward and taunting him to come back down, gets his wish as Ward jumps in Love’s guard. After a display of Wards ground and pound, Love locks up an armbar but is thrown off by ward. Both fighters trade punches in the canter of the cage as Ward falls to his back after missing a knee. Love follows him to the ground and the bell sounds ending the round. Round 2 starts with a display of textbook stand up. Love jumps and throws a spinning klick, but misses and ward gets the fight to the ground. After a short lived ground and pound ward steps back and let’s Love up. Love lands a couple solid overhand rights followed by a flush uppercut. After trading a couple of leg kicks Ward lands a solid straight right. Ward goes on the attack and gets Love backed up on the cage and lands a knee that drops Love to the canvas. Ward pounces an lands hamerfists until the referee stepps in to stop the bout at 4:09 of the 2nd Round. Adam Ward defeated David Love via TKO in 4:09 of the 2nd Round
Jake Murphy vs Phillipe Nover
Both fighters seem a little timid until Murphy shoots in and secures a double leg, picks up Nover and slams him in the center of the cage. Nover looks to secure a guillotine but can’t sink it in. Nover makes his way back to his feet but is driven to the cage by Murphy. Murphy struggles to get the fight to the ground and endures a few elbows in the meantime. The fight goes back to the feet and the fighters collide in the center of the cage backing up Nover. Murphy assumed that Nover was hurt and went in for the kill, only to be met with a takedown. Murphy makes his way to his feet and drives Nover to the cage and finds himself in another attempted guillotine. With the guillotine locked up, time wasn’t on Nover’s side as the bell rings ending the 1st round. Round 2 Murphy controls the center of the cage before shooting in and pressing Nover against the cage. Nover looks for a Kimura but Murphy escapes. In a display of ground game, Nover gets to his feet and looks to get another kimura, but Murphy flips out of it. The end of round 2 comes with Murphy in a seated position with Nover throwing a few short shots and knees to the body. Round 3 both fighters come out swinging for the fences, Murphy finally lands a right that backs Nover up. Murphy shoots in and takes it to the ground. Nover‘s still looking for a finish by kimura, but still no success. The fight foes back to the feet with Murphy controlling the center of the cage. This time it’s Nover that shoots in for the takedown, and eventually gets it. Nover looks for a guillotine, but Murphy escapes and gets to his feet. Just as the bell rings, Nover shoots in and gets denied by Murphy’s sprawl. This fight is going to the judges. Phillipe Nover defeated Jake Murphy via Unanimous Decision (29-28)
Main Event
Justin Ruggio vs Frank Lester
This fight starts off a little slow Ruggio throws a kick that was caught by Lester, and Ruggio spins out of it throwing and missing a spinning back fist. Lester charges and lands a kick to the mid-section of Ruggio. Returning to the center of the cage, Ruggio is caught with a looping right. In a kick exchange, Lester takes a solid, but inadvertent shot to the groin and pausing the action. The fight resumes and both fighters are looking for an opening. Ruggio finds his, and lands a right hook that pleases the audience. The crowd chants “Rugg-i-o.” seconds before Lester throws a head kick that Ruggio ducks under and shoots in to secure the takedown. Ruggio goes to work and Lester looks for an ankle lock, but is battered until the bell rings ending the 1st round. Round 2 Ruggio, comes out and lands a solid leg kick. Ruggio throws another kick, but this time it lands on the shoulder of Lester and he loses his footing falling to the canvas but springs back to his feet. After some trading of punches and kicks Ruggio shoots inand scoops up Lester and slams him to the canvas. From here he displays some good old fashion ground and pound. Lester looks for an armbar, but can’t find it. Ruggio pins Lester up against the cage and rains down a few elbows mixed in with multiple punches before the fight goes back to its feet. The round comes to an end with both fighters looking exhausted. Round 3 starts with the “Rugg-i-o chant” from the crowd. In an exchange of punches Ruggio drops to the canvas and is rewarded with a kick to the head (while down) from Lester. Lester pounces on Ruggio ignoring the fact that the referee is pushing him off. The referee waves the fight off due to the disqualification of Lester.
