Legends of fighting 47 Big Dawgs

CageCraze is LIVE, and cage-side once again for The Legends of Fighting Championship 47. We have a short, but stacked card this evening with 5 Amateur fights and 4 professional bouts. We have a all too long awaited rematch between Heavyweights Rob Arnett and William Penn.

We apologize for not having any photos for this event.  We’ll take twice as many for LFC 48 to make up for it!  Now lets get to the action of the evening.

 

Amateur Bouts:

Chad Wilson vs. Justin Dawsett:

The first amateur bout of the evening featured bantamweights Chad Wilson and Justin “Destruction” Dawsett who was making his cage debut. Wilson works for and gets an immediate takedown but is swept by Dawsett. Wilson stays active from his guard and secures a tight triangle with which he attempts to end the fight. Dawsett eventually is out of trouble and goes for an armbar himself that is defended well by Wilson. Both jockey for top control in a back and forth ground struggle. Wilson lands some solid ground and pound to finish out a very close and competitive first round. Round two begins with Wilson landing a front kick to the face of Dawsett that sends him to the mat. Wilson jumps on him with a barrage of punches in an effort to end the fight. He secures a guillotine which allows Dawsett to sweep and regain top control. They both continue to trade positions on the ground in a serious ground war. Wilson attempts a triangle at the end of the round but is unable to finish as the round ends. Round three starts out with the fighters touching gloves and Wilson again securing an early takedown. Dawsett attempts a kneebar that is met with hard shots from Wilson. Wilson works some short ground and pound but the fight is eventually stood up as Dawsett defends well. Wilson misses with a high kick and rushes in to close the round with one final takedown. Chad Wilson wins by unanimous decision.

Lloyd Thorton vs. Jake Beals:

Next up on the amateur card is a bantamweight fight between Lloyd “G-Money” Thorton and Jake Beals. Both are aggressive early with punches with each landing a few shots. Thorton ends up with a takedown from a clinch and begins dropping big shots on Beals. Beals ends up getting back to his feet but is taken down with an excellent throw by Thorton. They battle for position with Beals getting top control in Thorton’s guard. Thorton has a good guard on Beals and uses it to pull off a slick armbar that forces Beals to tap. Lloyd Thorton wins 2:29 round 1 via (armbar) submission.

Kevin Groff vs. Damar Gibson:

The third fight of the evening was a lightweight bout between Kevin Groff and Damar Gibson. Both fighters throw early punches with nobody landing clean. Groff with an early takedown but Gibson gets back to his feet quickly. They clinch against the cage with both fighters looking to avoid being taken down. The fighters are separated by the referee for inactivity. Gibson comes in aggressively and drops Groff with a hard right and takes Groff’s back to end the first round. Round two begins with Groff landing a body kick followed by combinations from both fighters that find there mark. The fighters clinch with Groff initially defending the takedown well but Gibson is finally able to secure it and works some hard knees and punches to the body. Gibson is smothering Groff and ends the round with some ground and pound from side control. The third round begins much the same with both fighters swinging wildly and each landing a few shots. Gibson gets another takedown and immediately goes for the back. He reigns down some hard punches in an attempt to flatten Groff out to set up the rear naked choke. Groff spins out of the rear naked choke and is on top. Gibson maintains wrist control from guard and works towards a kimura but the ref steps in and stands the fight up. Gibson stuffs a takedown to close out the round and screams in joy at the bell as he is confident he has done enough to win the decision. Damar Gibson wins by unanimous decision (30-27,30-27,30-27).

 

Jonny Neville vs. Joe Ramey:

The fourth amateur bout was a lightweight contest between Jonny “Half Pint” Neville and Joe Ramey. The first round begins with both throwing wildly and ending up in a scramble on the mat. Ramey ends up on top momentarily as they both trade positions several times. Ramey throws body shots to Neville but is swept and ends up in guard. Neville drops hard shots and gets a quick rear naked choke on Ramey without fully having his back, excellent submission finish for “Half Pint”. Jonny Neville wins at 1:53 of round 1 via (rear-naked choke) submission.

 

Fight of the Night

David Bernas vs. Luis Guerra:

The fighters and crowd were hyped up for the 145lb amateur title fight between David ”the Rude Dude” Bernas and Luis “Sho Nuff” Guerra. The title fight begins with some hesitation on the feet with nobody really landing any clean shots, respect and patience shown from both. Guerra shoots in and secures a takedown. Bernas uses wrist control to avoid punches and goes for a guillotine which allows Guerra to move into side mount. Guerra drops some big knees to the ribs of Bernas followed by vicious punches to the body. More hard punches to the body by Guerra to end the round. Guerra opens up the second round throwing combinations but Bernas does a good job avoiding the punches. Bernas shoots in and secures a takedown and immediately goes for the rear-naked choke. The choke looks like it could end the fight but somehow Guerra escapes and sweeps. Guerra gets to the mount and throws more devastating body shots. Bernas defends the punches and controls Guerra causing the referee to stand the fight back up. Bernas comes forward with two straight left jabs and a left hook that connect. Bernas gaining confidence on the feet but is taken down by Guerra ending the second round. Round three begins with Bernas landing a good right hand. Guerra connects on a right hand bomb as Bernas throws a body kick, dropping Bernas to the mat. Guerra swarms on Bernas with a huge knee to the body and ground and pound punches but Bernas does a good job covering up and the referee eventually stands the fight back up. Guerra lands a few combos on the feet and a knee to Bernas against the cage. Guerra shoots in with a nice single leg takedown and controls Bernas to finish the third round. Guerra is very methodical so far in this fight heeding the instructions from his corner very well. Heading into the championship rounds now, round four begins with Guerra again pushing forward with multiple combos that land followed by another takedown. Bernas controls Guerra well and keeps him from passing guard. Bernas goes for a triangle that looks like it could finish the fight. It’s tight, he pulls the head down and keeps it locked in but Guerra finally manages to escape. Bernas then goes for an armbar, again it looks like he will finish the fight but Guerra is patient and spins out and ends up on top. Excellent jiu jitsu battle from both, the crowd is going crazy as they are witnessing an awesome battle. Both are back to their feet, Bernas lands a solid combo that is answered by a combo from Guerra. Guerra stuffs a takedown and controls Bernas in the clinch to finish the round. Close fight and yet another close round, lots of action from both fighters thus far. The final round begins with Bernas throwing a superman punch that misses its mark. Guerra capitalizes with a takedown while Bernas works short punches from the bottom. Both are locked in a stalemate and the referee stands the fight back up. Bernas is aggressive with his punches; he may think he needs this round to win the fight. He lands a few good shots to Guerra. Bernas goes for multiple takedowns but Guerra is stuffing all his attempts. Guerra gets a takedown just before the bell which could possibly solidify his victory. Fight of the night effort from both warriors, great battle! Luis Guerra wins a split decision and the 145lb LFC amateur title.

Pro Bouts

Matt Wilson vs. Chris Johnson:

The first pro fight of the evening was a featherweight bout between Matt Wilson (0-7) vs. Chris Johnson (0-4) with both fighters looking for their first pro victory. Both start the fight out tentative on the feet until Johnson eventually secures a nice takedown. Johnson opens Wilson’s chin up from some ground and pound but loses position to Wilson. Wilson controls Johnson from the side and lands a multitude of unanswered strikes for his first pro victory. Matt Wilson wins by TKO (referee stoppage) due to strikes at 2:52 of round 1.

 

Submission of the Night

Justin Ford vs. Aaron Miller:

The next bout was a featherweight contest between Justin “Judo” Ford and Aaron “the Missile” Miller. Justin goes for an early takedown but ends up on his back. From guard he secures a quick armbar forcing Miller to tap. Justin Ford wins via armbar submission at :37 of round 1.

The next professional bout was a bantamweight contest between cage veterans Darnell Davis and Carson Gainey. Darnell opens up with a right hand that connects, however both fighters look tentative to strike. Carson shoots for a takedown but is stuffed by Darnell. Darnell works some dirty boxing and knees against the cage. Darnell picks up Carson and slams him for a huge takedown which gets the crowd on their feet. Darnell lands some ground and pound until Carson gets back to his feet. Darnell lands several punches and a big knee against the cage. Both are tentative to strike but Darnell is getting the better of Carson on the feet. Carson with a nice body kick to end the first round. Round two begins with Carson missing a big overhand right that is countered by a left hook from Darnell that drops Carson. Both fighters once again miss with strikes and clinch against the cage. This time Carson takes down Darnell with a good slam and gains side control. Carson works shorts elbows and hammerfists to Darnell and does a good job staying active. Carson works a guillotine that is tight but after nearly half a minute Darnell is out. The fight is stood up because of an illegal strike to the back of the head by Carson. Darnell finishes with a flurry of punches to end the round. Very close round. Round three begins with Darnell as the aggressor on the feet. Darnell lands a few solid jabs but is wary of the takedown attempt from Carson. Darnell stuffs Carson’s shot and the action resumes in the center of the cage. Carson rushes in intently this time and looks for the takedown as they clinch against the cage. Finally, he gets the takedown and starts working some short ground and pound. Darnell sweeps and gets back to his feet in time to land a flurry of punches to finish the round. Excellent fight by both; another fight of the night caliber LFC battle. Carson Gainey wins a unanimous decision (29-28). Close fight!

 

Main Event:

Rob Arnett vs. William Penn

The main event featured a rematch between heavyweights Rob “No Leftovers” Arnett and William Penn. Penn opens up with some early punch combinations that have Arnett looking for a quick takedown. Penn tags Arnett a few more times and Arnett counters with a front kick to the face that lands. Penn comes forward with more punches that land and Arnett clinches with Penn against the cage. Arnett works some knees in the clinch and gets a crafty takedown and immediately takes Penn’s back. Penn reverses and lands some vicious punches to Arnett. Arnett is trying diligently to get back to his feet and eventually does after taking even more punishment from Penn. Penn looks for a takedown but ends up on his back and that is how the round comes to an end. Both fighters look a little winded after the first round. Round two begins with both fighters looking to strike and they each land several punches. Penn comes forward with a hard combination of punches that rocks Arnett. Both fighters look spent but are still battling. Arnett with a few short punches and misses with a backhand punch. Penn gets a takedown and puts Arnett against the cage. Penn lands huge shots to Arnett, Arnett is courageous and fights through the bombs from Penn. Arnett goes for a kimura at the bell that looks tight but the round ends, Penn looks unfazed by the submission attempt. The final round begins with both fighters missing punches. They look exhausted from the war so far. Penn working the body of Arnett to start the round. They go to the mat and Arnett looks sinks in a tight rear naked choke but Penn reverses and gets dominant control. Arnett works punches and hammerfists from the bottom. Penn controls Arnett and keeps him on his back to finish out the fight. Both exchange words after the bell. William Penn wins a unanimous decision (30-27).
